RITUAL MASKS most clearly exemplify the artistic creativity of the tribesmen from the Sepik, Mapik, and Papua Guinea Gulf regions of New Guinea. You may see the details in a custom book report at the site.
Ancient tradition guided the tribesmen in creating their ritual masks which served as important paraphernalia for the dancers, religious practitioners and teachers during long and intricate ceremonies. Their masks demonstrate a closeness to natural forces and a deep respect for ancestors and the spirit world they inhabit. This exhibit offers a unique insight of how artistic expression ties in with the life cycle of a primitive people.
